Woodlands Cabana Club Named Best Pool in Walnut Creek!

Now, the entire Walnut Creek Community will know what Woodlands residents have known for years: the Woodlands Cabana Club is the Best Pool Club in Walnut Creek.

Earlier this week, WCC board members were contacted by representatives from Walnut Creek magazine, announcing that the pool had won the honor in the magazine’s Best of Walnut Creek voting. Results will be published in its November issue.

Of course, the more than 200 residents who belong to the club – and our guests -- know that it is a lot more than a place to swim; it is a de facto community plaza, the heart of the neighborhood and the location for school, scouting and social events throughout the summer months. It hosts the annual neighborhood 4th of July celebration, and is frequently used for philanthropic events -- like TAPS swim lessons for homeless children.

The Cabana Club is also the home of wildly successful Woodlands Swim Team, known throughout the county not only for its deep level of talent, but for its sportsmanship and commitment to excellence for ALL its swimmers. In fact, the WST is currently hosting its first ever fall swimming clinic.

The pool has hosted many former and future Olympians, including Mark Spitz and Laura Davis. Several alumni have gone on to Olympic trials and junior Olympics, including Andrew Lardiere, Stephen Woods, Sara Delay and Matt Williams.

But despite its illustrious athletic legacy, the Woodlands Cabana is first and foremost a community hub – and has been for nearly half a century. The first pool was built in the early 1960s, with the second pool in the early 1970s. Several generations of Woodlands residents have used the pool, and still hang out on warm summer afternoons.
